Hardwood footbridge opens in Sefton
A new footbridge was opened this week across the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Sefton in the north west of England. The design by Eckersley O'Callaghan Structural Engineers and Softroom Architects had been chosen in 2006 from 88 international entries to a competition run by Sefton Council. The new bridge replaces an old industrial footbridge that did not comply with the latest disability access legislation. Brian Eckersley of Eckersley O' Callaghan said: "We worked hard to design a structure which responded to the architectural ideas for the scheme, which were for a visually calm understated form. It's a simple and economic structure made from strong, durable and sustainably sourced hardwood."
