Navigational spans of more than 1.1km are to be provided in the crossing of two major waterways, the 1.5km-wide Dasha and the 2.4km Nizhou. The Second Humen Bridge was formerly known as Lianhuashan Bridge.

The competition calls for a "world class super large bridge". Designs are expected to be "safe and durable, harmonious and attractive, environmental and economic, scientific and innovative".

There will be prizes ranging from about US$29,000 to US$293,000 for the six top schemes. All six shortlisted schemes will eventually be exhibited in a museum that will be dedicated to the bridge.

Responses are to be submitted between 27 and 31 July.
