Northern Ireland's environment minister Edwin Poots has announced planning approval for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge crossing the River Foyle in Londonderry.

The Peace Bridge has been designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Faber Maunsell and will be built by Graham (Dromore) under a US$14.4 million design and construct contract. It is a curved self-anchored suspension bridge with a main span of 101m. Graham was awarded the contract in April and the bridge is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
