Designs for a pair of active travel bridges linking a Norwegian city centre with a green lung have brought competition success for an international team.

The proposal which impressed the municipality of Hønefoss which lies to the north of Oslo, is titled Weaving Hønefoss Together. It joins the island of Petersøya to the city centre. The bridges will improve mobility within for pedestrians and cyclists, and strengthen the island’s role as a green lung and a social hub.

The team responsible for the design consists of the architecture firm SAAHA, structural engineers Degree of Freedom, and landscape architects Bjørbekk & Lindheim.

The bridges will be constructed from materials that are environmentally friendly, such as low-carbon concrete and recycled steel.
