TRC Synergy subsidiary Trans Resources Corporation has secured a sub-package contract from SRS Consortium for works on the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line. The contract is part of the main civil works package for the elevated urban rail project, which will run through densely populated areas of George Town, Penang’s state capital, about 355km north of Kuala Lumpur.
The awarded sub-package covers the construction and completion of elevated viaduct guideways and stations, with the scope including segmental bridge girder launching, post-tensioning, grouting and other related civil engineering works. SRS Consortium is the principal civil works contractor for the project.
The Mutiara Line is a planned 29.5km elevated LRT corridor with 21 stations, linking George Town to key hubs including Jelutong, Gelugor and Bayan Lepas. It forms part of the Penang Transport Master Plan, aimed at improving public transport, easing congestion and supporting long-term growth on Penang Island.
Construction in central George Town has raised concerns over traffic disruption. In response, the main contractor and the Penang state government have launched a public awareness campaign to alert motorists to diversions as works progress.
