The bridge, which crosses the Nalubaale Dam and the River Nile at Jinja, was built in 1954 and lies on an important strategic route.

Some of the piers have been found to have serious deterioration below water level. There is also increasing movement between some deck slab elements over the cantilevered section of the bridge.

Mott MacDonald's commission involves the design and recommendation of solutions to restore the bridge's integrity. The company will also provide technical guidance for the tender documents for the emergency works and will assist with tender evaluation and construction supervision.
