The US city of Oklahoma has unveiled the design for a new pedestrian link to the city's downtown, the Skydance Bridge.

Following the initial request for proposals, four firms were selected to compete in the design competition. The winning team is made up of MKEC Engineering and Butzer Design Partnership.

The 56m-high structure's design is inspired by the skydance of the scissor-tailed flycatcher. The bridge is 9m wide and 134m long. The bridge's cross-shaped design is also seen as representing the crossroads between the American east and west.

Oklahoma City and the state of Oklahoma's Department of Transportation funds will pay for the estimated US$5 million construction cost.
