The low bowstring truss is a variation to the first bowstring design. Instead of the deck being supported by hangers, this tubular truss design permits a reduction in height of the bowstring shape. The upright tubular trusses rake backwards from the centre of the bridge to accentuate the curve. The design allows more colour options to the main steel including the possibility of a combination of two or more colours.
The traditional design is a simply-supported structure between two abutments. Its design differs from the two contemporary designs due to the deck bearing on the main arched lattice-style beams. This raises the finished deck level and therefore the ramps would become longer to meet the approved gradient.
Members of the public are being invited to attend exhibitions or fill in an online questionnaire by 14 October 2011, answering questions on topics ranging from the shape of the footbridge to the materials and colours.
