Delaware Department of Transportation and Skanska USA Civil Southeast yesterday held a workshop which launched a public vote to decide on three details of the new US$150 million Indian River Inlet Bridge.

Members of the public have been invited to determine the colour of the covering of the cable stays, the design for the tops of the pylons and the lighting fixtures for the pedestrian walkways. Public preference for the look of the three specific features will be incorporated into the design.

The 796m-long cable-stayed bridge will have a 274m clear span over the inlet. Piling has started and the bridge is due to open to traffic in 2011.
