The agreement, worth US$50 million, is for construction of a four-lane bridge parallel to the existing Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge. The aims are to improve the connectivity of the road network and the flow of transport, relieve traffic jams and enhance road safety.
The bridge will link to the existing road network on both sides of the Demerara River, ensuring easier access to public facilities such as Mackenzie Hospital. The new crossing is also expected to contribute towards social and economic development and the creation of employment opportunities in Guyana.
