The contract, worth US$54.7 million, is for the design and construction of an elevated viaduct on Line 2 of a new subway system currently under construction in the city of Pune, Maharashtra, around 120km southeast of Mumbai.

The 31.2km rapid transit system consists of two corridors and 31 stations, and is being implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail, a joint venture between the Indian central government and Maharashtra state government. NCC is currently constructing the elevated rail viaducts for Line 1, a contract that was awarded in May this year.

Work on the rapid transit system began at the end of 2016 and is expected to be completed by December 2021.
