One of the UK's largest mobile cranes today positioned a 55m-span stainless steel bridge over the floating harbour at Temple Quay Central in the English city of Bristol.

The US$4.8 million bridge has been designed for Castlemore Securities by structural engineer Price & Myers, Niall McLaughlin Architects and artist Martin Richman. Their aim was to create a structure which was imposing, yet simple. It has been manufactured by WEC Group and the contractor is Dean & Dyball.

It was transported to site in eight sections and welded at the quayside before being lifted into place as a 75t single unit by the Liebherr LTM 11000D crane.

The bridge will link the city centre to the main train station. Opening to pedestrians and cyclists is due on 20 August.
