Forthside pedestrian bridge in Stirling, Scotland, has now opened. It was due to have been completed last year but the complex stressing process took longer than originally anticipated.

The 113.4m-long three span assymetric inverted fink truss bridge was designed by Gifford and Wilkinson Eyre Architects and was built by Edmund Nuttall. The deck structure comprises two longitudinal 550mm square hollow section edge beams, which are rotated through 45° to a diamond orientation. They are interconnected by a shallow box forming the walkway. One end pylon is vertical while the other is at 35° to the vertical, with intermediate stanchions inclined incrementally by 5°. The longest pylon is 30m and the shortest 13m.

The stays are made of high-yield steel bar of between 36mm and 100mm diameter. They extend from the top of each of the masts to the base of the next mast along the deck edge beam.
