PCL Civil Constructors had won the $23.4m contract for the work on Jimmie Davis Bridge. DOTD has now determined that, for reasons beyond the control of both the department and PCL, the rehabilitation cannot be completed in line with the original contract.

The contract has been terminated because of the inability to reach an agreement with the contractor on a plan or a price to address the presence of cliff swallows, a protected species of bird inhabiting the bridge.

DOTD is working on the next steps to move forward with the project.
