A wooden structure designed by Inhus will soon improve micromobility in the city of Vilnius.

The city municipality has signed a contract with UAB Tilsta to implement a new pedestrian bridge over the river Neris.

Existing bridges in the city are designed for car traffic, which makes them inconvenient for walkers and cyclists travelling between the central part of the city and offices in in Žverynas and Saltoniškes.

The 112m long bridge will separate cyclists from pedestrians, and connect with paths on the river embankment. Careful lighting design will create an attractive space under the bridge. The structure will have glass railings which will offer protection from the wind without disrupting the river views.

The bridge will be completed in 2027, and US$14 million has been allocated to the project from city funds.

The design, by Inhus Engineering and Do Architects, was selected in a 2019 competition (link opens in new tab).
