The US$42 million Keel Crossing was built by VolkerStevin, designed by Knight Architects, Arup and Colour and commissioned by Sunderland City Council.

The word keel, referring to the structural backbone of a ship, in the bridge’s name honours Sunderland’s industrial heritage.

Rugby fans had a preview of the Keel Crossing back in August when it opened during an international tournament (link opens in new tab).
