Two communities either side of a river between the states of Washington and Oregon are a step closer to replacing their ageing moveable steel truss bridge.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued a record of decision (ROD) for the new US$1.12 billion Hood River-White Salmon Bridge over the Columbia River. It will be a fixed span structure built to modern seismic and safety standards with wider lanes and a separate path for cyclists and pedestrians. A modern storm-water system will protect river ecosystems from pollution.
The ROD means that the project team, which is led by HNTB and Kiewit Infrastructure West, can move into final design, permitting, right-of-way actions and construction procurement.
