The Pingtan Haixia rail-road bridge will connect Fuzhou in Fujian province with Pingtan Island, across the Strait of Taiwan, cutting travel time from two hours to around 30 minutes. It consists of three double-tower cable-stayed main channel bridges.

The crossing is designed by the China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute and is being constructed by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group.

Construction started in November 2013 with an estimated investment of US$1.7 billion.

The bridge is expected to open to traffic in early 2020.
