Two mega infrastructure projects were inaugurated last week in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the northern territory to officially open Chenab Rail Bridge – the world’s highest railway arch bridge – and Anji Bridge – India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge. Both are part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.

Chenab Rail Bridge, supported by a 785m steel arch, stands 359m above the bed of the Chenab River (link opens in new tab).
The contractor for Konkan Railway Corporation was Afcons Infrastructure. Design was by WSP with sub-consultant Leonhardt, Andra & Partner. Other companies involved include Cowi, Aecom, Itasca, Italferr, Anwikar Consultants, Sail and URS-Scott Wilson.
Anji Bridge is supported on a single pylon 331m above the riverbed. The contractor was Hindustan Construction Company (link opens in new tab).
