No further action will be taken to progress plans for a bridge.

The decision follows a local referendum in which 57.4% of residents opposed a proposed cable-stayed bridge. The council voted in July to halt the project to build the bridge, which was designed by Mark Lovell Design Engineers. It had been proposed by the town council and approved at county level but proved controversial locally.

Two campaigns, Back the Bridge and Bradford Bridge Concern took opposing stances on the proposals and Wiltshire County Council organised the poll.
