The US$340 million bid by a team of Chinese companies was the lowest of three submitted for construction of the 2.4km crossing, which includes a cable-stayed bridge. The winning team is made up of China Road & Bridge Corporation, CCCC Highway Consultants, CCCC Second Highway Engineering and CCCC Second Harbour Engineering.

The other bidders were Strabag and a joint venture of Astaldi and IC Ictas.

The project is controversial as Bosnia says that the bridge would interfere with its access to international waters.

Construction is scheduled to take 36 months.
