The bridge crossed the Magra River near on the border of the regions of Tuscany and Liguria.

The collapse happened this morning (8 April). According to local reports, two drivers crossing the bridge escaped serious injury. The bridge would normally have been busy, but the coronavirus lockdown means that there is little traffic on the roads.
