Shimmick Construction Company has won a US$45.4 million contract for improvements to a bridge in a harbour in Santa Cruz.
Under the contract, Murray Street Bridge at Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbour will undergo work to improve its seismic resilience and to make it more accessible by foot and by bicycle. It will also get a makeover with see-through barrier rails to improve harbour and ocean views.
The project includes installation of new piles, extended pile caps, new columns, and bent caps. The retrofit will also widen the bike lanes to 1.8m and add a 2.3m two-lane sidewalk on the ocean side.
Other bridges in the city had similar work done in the early 2000s.
