Contractor Farrans and bridge owner Suffolk County Council are marking the occasion by inviting the public to walk on the bridge before it opens to traffic, with an exclusive pedestrian opening between 9am and 11.30am on Saturday 7 September.

The visually arresting gull-like bascule span weighs 750t and was delivered in March (link opens in new tab). The bridge is the world’s largest rolling bascule bridge lifted with hydraulic cylinders. Fabrication was by Victor Buyck Steel Construction. Also involved in the project were Sharp contract and Surveying and ARUP.
