Ecisa was appointed by Adif to build the bridge after beating five other contractors in a public competition for the contract. Its price for the work was about US$860,000 after taxes.
The project involves building a new concrete structure to replace an existing steel footbridge that spans the high-speed railway line.
FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores designed the footbridge and developed the plan for the construction in a joint venture with AudingIntraesa.
The new footbridge has been designed to meet latest accessibility and safety standards as well as to be more attractive than the existing structure. The choice of concrete as the material and absence of expansion joints along the whole deck are aimed at minimising maintenance costs during the service life.
