A ceremony took place in Suriname yesterday (4 May 2022) to mark both the official signing of the design contract and the launch of an invitation for expressions of interest in building the bridge over the Corantijn River. The contract to build the bridge will include design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance.

The design is being carried out by Trinidad-based WSP Caribbean. Its package of work also includes coordination of the expressions of interest from contractors and subsequent phases of work.

Suriname’s minister of public works Riad Nurmohamed and his Guyanese counterpart Juan Anthony Edghill signed the documents.

The target is for construction to start by the end of this year.
