The Sidney Lanier Bridge is on the US 17/SR 25 roads in Glynn County.
The emergency closure of bridge was introduced for safety reasons when ice that had accumulated on the cables and cross members started to fall.
The 2.3km bridge over the Brunswick River has a 381m main span and is 150m tall. It opened in 2003.
