The final section of Stonecutters Bridge's 1018m-long main span is now being welded into place after being raised into position last week.

The 1.6km-long cable-stayed bridge will be a key part of Hong Kong's Route 8 linking Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan. It straddles the Rambler Channel at the entrance to a busy container port.

Maeda-Hitachi-Yokogawa-Hsin Chong Joint Venture is contractor for the US$356 million project, which started on site in April 2004 and is due to be commissioned in the third quarter of this year. Consultant to the JV is Maunsell Aecom
