The Canadian province of Manitoba has said that it will need to invest at least US$15 million to restore the Pierre Delorme Bridge, which came close to collapse last year.
The bridge has been closed to traffic since August, when part of its pier support system shifted and caused a section of the deck to buckle.
Fast-tracked reconstruction will be carried out to reinstate the bridge and reopening is expected before the end of this year.
Damaged portions have already been demolished and detailed design of the repairs has been carried out, as well as ground stablisation work.
