The 1.8km-long suspension bridge will form part of the E39 highway and is on the section of road between Byrkjelo and Grodås, some 300km north of Bergen. Its towers will be 250m high and both will be founded on land; navigation height will be 75m and the bridge deck, which will carry four lanes of traffic, will lead directly into tunnels at each end. This new section of highway will cut the existing route by half, and will consequently halve travel time too.

Statens Vegvesen intends the plans to be submitted for approval by the municipality next year and if funds are available, construction will start in 2024 or 2025.
