Bridges feature in many of the proposals, including various plans to retain the Skyway Bridge or build a new lift bridge.

"These submissions showcase creative ideas that reimagine the Skyway Corridor and propose innovative ways to enhance Buffalo's waterfront," said governor Andrew Cuomo.

The Buffalo Skyway Corridor Competition has challenged teams to come up with ideas for the 6.4km route while also building on recent investment in the city (link opens in new tab). The top submission will be awarded a US$100,000 prize, with US$50,000 for second place and US$25,000 for third place.

Empire State Development received more than 100 submissions during Part 1 of the competition - which included ‘summary-level’ submissions that were screened against the criteria of being "affordable, feasible and achievable". Twenty teams were invited to submit final presentation boards and proposals during Part 2 of the competition. Sixteen of the 20 teams submitted final proposals, which are now available to view. The list will be winnowed to eight teams that will be asked to pitch their ideas to a review panel in Buffalo.
