The Tanzanian transport agency TANROADS has signed a contract with the China Communications Construction Company for a bridge in the eastern city of Dar es Salaam.
The contract is worth US$35.6 million and the work will be carried out over 24 months. The bridge over the Msimbazi River is needed because the area gets flooded, causing road closures. The minister of construction called on CCCC to begin work within three months.
The project will be managed by Leporogo Specialist Engineers (South Africa) in partnership with Afrisa Consulting (Tanzania) and Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants and Architecture (South Korea).
The bridge building coincides with construction of the banks of the Msimbazi River and a development programme in its valley.
