The options are:

  • a twin pylon cable-stayed structure going bank to bank at an estimated cost of £5.8m, with a pedestrian crossing over the Ormeau Embankment

  • a similar twin pylon cable-stayed structure, but splitting mid-span, with a lower deck going down to the Ormeau Embankment towpath, and an upper deck continuing over the road and into Ormeau Park, at an estimated cost of £9.6m.

  • a curved twin inclined bowstring arch bridge, spanning from bank to bank at an estimated cost of £5.4m, with a pedestrian crossing over the Ormeau Embankment.

The bridge will link the Gasworks and centre areas with Ormeau Park. It is intended to improve access, encourage more sustainable commuting and bring the park within walking distance of the city centre.

Procurement will be on the basis of a design and build contract, using quality and price assessment in a two-stage open tender.
