The government is engaging China Railway Construction for the project, which will connect Wismar to Mackenzie.
The existing bridge has only one vehicle lane, leading to traffic congestion. Its four-lane replacement is expected to cost about US$35 million.
China Railway Construction has also been tasked with the construction of the Demerara River Crossing, at a cost of about US$260 million.
