The new moveable bridge will replace a 116-year-old crossing, which no longer opens and closes consistently and restricts the speed of trains to 45mph. The chosen construction contractor is a joint venture between two US companies, O&G and Tutor Perini. The management contract has gone to Aecom.

The new bridge will allow trains to run at speeds of up to 70mph. It will also have a greater vertical clearance.
