WSP Finland has signed a contract to design a major cable-stayed bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam. The company's proposal had an international design competition last year.

The 700m-long six-lane concrete bridge will have a 230m main span. The design features a 140m-high backwards-leaning pylon and a spiral-shaped cable net. Design will be carried out in WSP offices in Helsinki and Oulu in Finland.

Construction is set to begin towards the end of the year and the bridge is due to be commissioned in 2011. The estimated cost is US$60 million.
