Webuild and its consortium partners have been awarded Lot 4A of a high-capacity railway from Palermo-Catania in Sicily. The team will develop a 27km section between Caltanissetta Xirbi and Nuova Enna, in Sicily.

Lot 4A, which involves building a new rail line next to the existing one, will include 20km of tunnels as well as 3km across viaducts. Webuild has a 75% stake in the consortium for Lot 4A, with partner Ghella taking 25%.The work will be carried out by Webuild (leader), with Selo Overseas (Webuild Group), Ghella and TunnelPro (Ghella Group).

The new contract means that Webuild is now building five sections of the Palermo-Catania-Messina line, which will form part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and will reduce travel times between Palermo and Catania by 60 minutes to two hours.
