BGC Contracting has been appointed by Roads & Maritime Services to build a new bridge over Burrill Lake in New South Wales, Australia.

Major work on the US$43 million project is due to start in mid-April for completion by early 2018. Activity being carried out in advance of the major work includes building a temporary working platform on the lake to allow safe construction.

The new Burrill Lake Bridge will be 290m long and will span the lake on an alignment east of the existing bridge. New intersections will be built as part of the project, including roundabouts to connect the Princes Highway to local roads.

"The project will also improve the overall reliability of the Highway by reducing future maintenance costs and providing a new crossing and approaches to withstand a one in 100 year flood event,” said South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.
