The third bridge over the Itacaiúnas river in the municipality of Marabá, is nearing completion, according to the regional government.

The 524m cable-stayed crossing is a collaboration between the State Government of Pará in the northeast of Brazil and the city of Marabá. The state government has invested just under half of the US$18 million cost.

The work is being carried out by the Ponte Itacaiúnas Consortium, which consists of Gaspar and ArteLeste Construções. The remaining tasks include painting, concreting the final span and urbanising access roads.

It is hoped the crossing will improve mobility in Marabá and ease congestion on the Transamazônica highway.
