Balfour Beatty is set to start construction of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Thames in Reading in southern England.
Reading Borough Council is client for the landmark cable-stayed bridge, which will be approximately 120m long including a 68m span over the river. The design is by Peter Brett Associates and architect Design Engine.
The bridge will be located to the east of Fry’s Island, between the existing Caversham and Reading Bridges. It will provide a new route from Caversham into the town centre, and to and from Reading Station.
Construction is due for completion in early summer 2015.
