A team made up of Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner and GMP Architekten took first place in the competition to design a replacement for Mainbrücke Marktbreit, which was built in 1982 and is in poor condition.

A key factor was for the bridge to fit harmoniously into its setting in the Maintal Valley near Segnitz and Marktbreit.

The haunched hollow-box structure will cross the valley in six spans. The superstructure is designed with a single-cell steel composite box-girder cross-section, the construction height of which increases from 3.7m at the northern abutment to 5.5m in the main span.
