The government is investing US$22 million to upgrade Swan Street Bridge, which opened in 1952 and is the gateway to Melbourne’s sport and entertainment precinct. The upgrade is due to be completed in late 2017 and is designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and provide greater access to the precinct. Work includes the provision of an additional traffic lane and new separated shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians on both sides.
