A 750t mobile crane got to work in Celje, northeast Slovenia, to lift a 127t steel footbridge into position on its final bearings in a single piece.

The steel structure, designed by Ponting and manufactured by BS VAR, has a span of 76m. Its design is a simply-supported arch Vierendeel girder.

The project avoided the need for placing temporary supports on the bed of the river Savinja because the structure was lifted as a single piece.

Assembly was carried out by VOC Celje and ŠUŠTERŠIC. The bridge will be ready for cyclists and hikers using the route connecting Šempeter and Celje early in 2025.
