Kansas Department of Transportation, in collaboration with the city and project partners, hosted a community open house this week for the I-70/Polk-Quincy Viaduct replacement project.

The project is designed to enhance safety and improve the corridor by expanding a stretch of the I-70 highway from four lanes to six lanes and replacing the existing viaduct.

The project consultants are Bartlett & West, WSP, Finney & Turnipseed and Architect One.

The existing viaduct (below) was constructed in the late 1950s. Since then, its condition has deteriorated, traffic volumes have increased, highway design criteria have changed and the surrounding area has undergone development.

Utility relocation will start this year and construction is expected to begin in early 2025.
