The city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA, has adopted plans for a pedestrian and cycle bridge that will connect two areas of park land on either side of the Cedar River.

The Alliant Energy Lightline features a 50m tall tower and will cost US$11.3 million. The 18m wide structure will be illuminated at night and features a split deck to allow users to stop and enjoy the view. It replaces a railway bridge that was washed out in a 2008 flood.
The new bridge will join the neighbourhoods of Czech Village and NewBo. It will be part of several long-distance hiking and cycling trails.
The project, known as ConnectCR, started in the 1970s. This design replaces a previous iteration with a central pylon intended to echo a historic landmark smokestack (link opens in new tab).
