Contractor Kiewit Louisiana will start work in April on the first of two phases of the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development project.

Kiewit's US$57.7 million contract will replace the current southbound bridge with a new bridge that will be constructed on the west side of the existing structure. In addition, Ernest Wilson Drive and LA 1 will be realigned to connect with the new bridge.

Vehicles will remain on the current alignment until the new bridge is completed. Both southbound and northbound traffic will then be shifted to the new bridge. Phase one is due for completion in early 2023, weather permitting.

Phase two – the replacement of the northbound structure - is scheduled to go to bid summer 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
