A replacement concrete footbridge over the Krka River in Slovenia alludes to regional characteristics in its design.

The new Ressel Bridge at Mršeca in the south east of the country has a handrail design that is a nod to a local tradition of wooden fencing.

It replaces a temporary pontoon, which itself replaced an old wooden bridge in 2014.

Ponting designed the new bridge, which has a superstructure consisting of a trapeze concrete girder 1.25m high. Contractor CGP has already started preparing the support structures, consisting of two abutments on the banks, and two hydraulically formed intermediate supports in the riverbed.

The Ressel Bridge will open in the latter part of 2025.
